Garner Veteran's Memorial Celebration

Today I had the opportunity to attend the dedication ceremony for the Garner Veteran's Memorial.  I expected to see a lot of familiar faces there, but was completely surprised that attendees filled up the santuary of the church where the event was held.  I was reminded by a friend today of a great poem that's very appropriate for Veteran's day.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter who had given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer who has given us the right to a far trial.

It is the Soldier, who salutes the flag who serves beneath the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag who allows the protester to burn the flag.
